VIÑA ZORZAL WINES

Viña Zorzal Wines is the project of three brothers who chose to carry on the passion for wine passed down to them by their father, Antonio Sanz. Founded in 1989, the winery works with dedication and deep respect for tradition, producing wines under the Navarra and Rioja appellations. Their approach is defined by the revival of native grape varieties such as Garnacha and Graciano, often overlooked, and by a philosophy that blends inherited knowledge with quiet innovation.

Their vineyards stretch across areas of great viticultural value like Corella and Fitero, where they cultivate old vines, including a remarkable 115-year-old Garnacha that has survived even the phylloxera plague. Viña Zorzal follows an organic, low-intervention approach to viticulture: hand-harvesting, spontaneous fermentations, and wines that are neither fined nor filtered. The result is a collection of wines that genuinely reflect the character of the land and the true identity of each grape variety.

This vintage shows added roundness, with complexity and depth, a fine chalky texture, and polished tannins. Fermented in open 1,000-litre vats with 5% each Garnacha Blanca and Mazuela (Cariñena), it was aged in four second-use 500-litre French oak barrels. Super tasty, with 2,600 bottles filled in January 2024.

Following its debut in 2022, the 2023 vintage was crafted as a long-term blend from the best lots of each variety. The Viura fermented in three 500-litre barrels, while the Garnacha Blanca was vinified in a 700-litre concrete egg and an 800-litre ceramic Clayver, with all components maturing for nine months. With a moderate 12.89% alcohol, a pH of 3.3, and 5.4 grams of acidity, it is more exuberant and expressive than its predecessor, showing plenty of spice and oak influence. The palate is textured and chalky, with the oak still integrating, leading to a long, salty finish. A wine to cellar for a few years. 4,000 bottles were produced and bottled in July 2024.

The wine fermented in stainless steel and concrete, then matured for 12 months in a 4,000-litre oak vat and thirteen 500-litre French oak barrels. It has 13.78% alcohol, a pH of 3.4, and 5.5 grams of acidity. A total of 13,900 bottles were produced, and it was bottled in February 2024.
